Rancho Santa Margarita, California.  Earlier this week, Laguna Beach Beer Company (LBBC) closed its transaction to acquire Cismontane Brewing Company’s brewery and tasting room in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.  After closing for several days of renovations, LBBC will officially open its doors to the public this Saturday, February 5, 2017, from noon until 9:00pm

The 3,100 square foot facility at 29851 Aventura, Suites C and D, has nearly a dozen fermenters and other production tanks, as well as a 1,000 square foot tasting room with an outdoor patio.  It’s 15-barrel brewhouse can provide over 5,000 barrels of beer per year. Over the next 2 months, LBBC will be expanding into an adjoining 1,500 square feet at the Plaza Empresa Retail Center, increasing the size of its tasting room, installing a draft system that will offer up to 20 beers, and adding a kitchen that will offer fine foods including flat breads and gourmet sandwiches.

Laguna Beach Beer Co will initially have on tap its four core offerings, which are an IPA, a Blonde Ale, a Red Ale, and a Pale Ale; a couple of new offerings including a Double IPA and an Oatmeal Porter; as well as several others.  Once the kitchen is complete, the company will be able to offer beer from other craft breweries as well.

Brent Reynard, the company’s CEO and co-founder announced the opening, “Rancho Santa Margarita is an ideal spot for a production brewery.  Our brewery is one-of-a-kind in the area and we hope will be a fun and tasty alternative for the folks who live here.” Carl Katz, the Laguna Beach Beer Company COO, added “We are incredibly proud to be joining the Rancho Santa Margarita area, we look forward to becoming active members and supporters of the community and providing our neighbors with an inviting and laid-back place to enjoy locally produced and delicious craft beer.”

The folks at Laguna Beach Beer Company give an extra shout of appreciation to the Rancho Santa Margarita Chamber of Commerce for helping pave the way to integrating into the business community. Thank you.

Laguna Beach Beer Company to acquire Cismontane Brewing Company’s RSM Brewery!

Brent Reynard - Wednesday, January 04, 2017
NOVEMBER 2, 2016 Laguna Beach Beer Company to acquire Cismontane Brewing Company’s RSM Brewery! Orange County, CA - Laguna Beach Beer Company today announced an agreement to acquire Cismontane Brewing Company’s production facility and tasting room in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Laguna Beach Beer Company plans to expand the existing location to include a kitchen, additional seating and to rebrand the space as “Laguna Beach Beer Company @RSM ”, which will offer the Rancho Santa Margarita and surrounding Orange County communities a new destination to celebrate the joy of craft beer and great food. Cismontane retains its brand name and trademark and will continue its planned growth at its own new brewing facility and tasting room in Santa Ana, CA. The transition to Laguna Beach Beer Company @RSM is expected over the next few months, following the transfer of applicable permits and licenses. The two companies will continue to cooperate in the coming months as Laguna Beach Beer Company ramps up its production in the RSM brewery. This agreement benefits both companies. The facility will provide Laguna Beach Beer Company with additional production capacity to support its planned brew pub in Laguna Beach (which is under development and scheduled to open in the spring of 2017). It will also provide a chance to introduce the brand and taste of Laguna Beach Beer Company to other communities in Orange County. “The opportunity for Laguna Beach Beer Company to partner with Cismontane and to acquire a turnkey brewing facility that has room for expansion and is strategically located near our Laguna Beach brew pub location is rare and unique. We could not be happier about this transaction and partnering with Evan and Ross at Cismontane. We also look forward to becoming a part of, sharing our beers with, and serving the RSM community” stated Brent Reynard, Laguna Beach Beer Company’s co-founder and CEO. As part of the transition Cismontane has started brewing Laguna Beach Beer Company’s beers in the RSM facility to enable them to open with a full-line up of their core beers as soon as the ABC license changes hands. “This transaction and transition is mutually beneficial and a good fit for both companies and we are fortunate to have found a flexible partner in Laguna Beach Beer Company, because once the brewery is taken over by Laguna Beach Beer Company, Cismontane will continue to brew its beers at the RSM brewery while we transition our operations to our new Santa Ana brewing facility” said Evan Weinberg, co-founder and CEO of Cismontane. Patrons and beer enthusiasts will be able to sample beers from both Laguna Beach Beer Company and Cismontane at the RSM location. Even after Cismontane fully transfers its operations to its new Santa Ana facility, Laguna Beach Beer Company has indicated that it plans to continue offering some of the Cismontane beers on tap as it plans to offer select guest beers in the RSM tasting room.
The terms of the transaction are confidential and will not be publicly disclosed. This is a mutually beneficial transaction and relationship and will foster a more robust and collaborative brewing culture in Orange County.

Laguna Beach Beer Co. Launches Thousand Steps IPA

Carl Katz - Thursday, December 08, 2016
Laguna Beach, California.  Laguna Beach Beer Company (LBBC) officially unveiled its Thousand Steps IPA yesterday at Hennessey’s Tavern in Laguna Beach, CA. Approximately 75 patrons attended, with LBBC staff on hand to discuss the beer and educate customers about this special release.

Thousand Steps IPA is a West Coast Style IPA made with American 2-Row and Crystal 20 grains malts.  Bittered with Centennial and Cascade hops in the boil impart a balancing bitterness to the wort, which is then double dry hopped with Citra hops to bring out a tropical aroma.  LBBC Co-founder and CEO and Laguna Beach native, Brent Reynard, explained “The citrus notes are refreshing while the bitterness adds balance giving the beer backbone and complexity, and making it a joy to drink.”

The beer is named for Thousand Steps Beach, one of Laguna Beach’s finest landmarks for locals and visitors to enjoy the surf, sun and sand, for which Laguna is famous.  The “1000” steps leading down to the beach are a local iconic landmark, to which this beer gives justice.  The artwork for Thousand Steps IPA bottle labels was created by local Laguna artist Heather Reynard.

In 2017, LBBC will be opening two South County production facilities and tasting rooms.  The first to open, in early January is a 15-barrel brewhouse and tasting room in Rancho Santa Margarita, where the company will focus on its core beers including a blonde, red, pale ale, and the Thousand Steps IPA.. The company has also entered into a lease for a 7-barrel brewpub in Laguna Beach, which it will devote to one-off and experimental beers. The brewpub will be located at 859 Laguna Canyon Drive, adjacent to the Sawdust Festival. Production at the Laguna Beach location is expected to begin in late Spring 2017.
